Tour program:

DAY 1-2: PRAGUE – PARIS – MAURITIUS – RÉUNION

Departure from Prague with a transfer in Paris and Mauritius. Second day arrival to Réunion, transfer to hotel in the south-eastern part of the island, accommodation.

DAY 3: CENTRAL PART OF RÉUNION

A peek into the green caldera of Salazie, hike through tamarind forest and tropical countryside to the impressive waterfalls of Trou de Fer; trip into the interior of the island to the largest lake on the island, Grand Étang; visit to a vanilla farm in St. André.

DAY 4: PITON DE LA FOURNAISEE

Trip to the craters of one of the most active volcanoes in the world, Dolomieu and Bora (UNESCO). Cross the lunar landscape to the volcanic cave of Chapelle de Rosemont. Visit the new interactive museum of geology and volcanism, La Cité du Volcan.

DAY 5: SOUTHERN PART OF THE RÉUNION, THE “LAVA ROAD”

Cross the road leading through the lava field of the active volcano Piton de la Fournaise, stopping at the church of Notre Dame des Laves at the foot of the volcano. Hike through the lush vegetation on the botanical trails above St. Philippe and visit the Grand Galet waterfall with swimming. The bustling town of St. Phillipe, visit to a sugar cane and rum factory.

DAY 6: SAINT GILLES LES BAINS, L´ERMITAGE LES BAINS

Relaxing day in picturesque seaside resorts, swimming, water activities; possibility to visit the Marine Aquarium, Jardin d’Eden (tropical botanical garden including up to 700 species of tropical flowers and trees).

DAY 7: CILAOS CALDERA

Departure to the mountain town of Cilaos, located in the middle of one of the three calderas, with typical Creole architecture. Hike to the Col du Tibit or to the Roche Merveilleus lookout and the Bois Rouge waterfall. Upon arrival back to the coast, swimming in the sea.

DAY 8: LE MAIDO AND CALDERA MAFAT

Departure to the last of the three calderas, the Mafat caldera. The least accessible caldera with a rugged mountainous interior. Hiking along the edge of the Mafat caldera, depending on fitness, up to the Grand Bénare lookout peak to almost 2900 m above sea level; in the afternoon visit Kelonie (sea turtle rescue station and research institute).

DAY 9: BOUCAN CANOT BEACH, CAPITAL OF ST. JOHN’S ISLAND. DENIS

Visit one of the most beautiful white sand beaches of the island – Boucan Canot. In the afternoon, transfer to the capital St. Denis with its beautiful colonial architecture, constantly vibrant atmosphere in the Creole spirit; in the evening transfer to the airport and flight to Mauritius.

DAY 10: MAURITIUS, BEACH FLIC EN FLAC

A free day on one of the best beaches in Mauritius, soaking up the local exotic atmosphere.

DAY 11: NORTHWESTERN PART OF MAURITIUS, CAPITAL PORT LUISE

Morning transfer to Port Louis, the multicultural capital where different cultures and religions collide. Visit the Blue Penny Museum, a museum of postage stamps featuring the famous Blue Mauritius, and the central market. A stroll through the Botanical Gardens of Pamplemousses, the oldest garden in the southern hemisphere with giant water lilies, and swimming at the beaches of Grand Baie.

DAY 12: TERRE DE COULEURS, CHAMARELL WATERFALL AND NP BLACK RIVER GORGES

Trip to the southern part of the island to Terre de couleurs, geological formations with different colored sand dunes, view of the Chamarell waterfall. Visit to the NP Black River Gorges (the last part of the rainforest on the island), a short hike along the trails in the park.

DAY 13: GRAND BASSIN, BOIS CHÉRI TEA PLANTATION AND MOKA TOWN

Transfer to the central part of the island to the sacred Hindu site with giant statues – Grand Bassin, then to the Bois Chéri tea plantation – visit to the tea processing factory with tasting and tour of the tea plantation. We will also soak up the atmosphere of the town of Moka (official residence of the President) and visit the impressive colonial mansion of Eureka with its beautiful park and Ravin waterfall. Afternoon swimming at one of Mauritius’ beaches.

DAY 14: FLIC EN FLAC BEACH, OPTIONAL CATAMARAN TRIP

Swimming on the beaches of Flic en Flac, optional catamaran trip to the northern or eastern islands (combined with snorkelling).

DAY 15-16: EASTERN PART OF MAURITIUS, BY AIR MAURITIUS – PARIS – PRAGUE

Transfer to the eastern part of the island, visit the Vieux Grand Port – the landing place of the first inhabitants and the historic fortress, the town of Mahébourg. At the end, farewell to the island on the Blue Bay beach, swimming. Afternoon transfer to the airport, evening departure, return to the Czech Republic the next day.
