We have prepared another unique event for you. This time photographer Petr Slavik will take you to Uganda, which is rightly called the pearl of East Africa. Our 13-day safari in Uganda will offer you unforgettable experiences of wildlife watching, breathtaking scenery of national parks and will also bring several cultural experiences.

The biggest attraction of Uganda is undoubtedly watching the mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. This species of gorilla is not found in any zoo in the world, and lives only in a small mountain area on the border of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda and Rwanda. Because this is a very unique experience, we have included a visit to the mountain gorillas twice in our tour. You will therefore have more opportunities and time to get unique photographs while having an unforgettable experience. On other safaris in our itinerary you will have the opportunity to track chimpanzees, encounter rhinos, lions, hippos, buffalo, leopards, elephants and various species of birds and visit dense green forests. In addition, you will enjoy the Murchison Falls in the north of the country and the crater lakes in the west. This journey will introduce you to the beautiful nature and culture of Uganda.

We will be traveling in a small group of up to 8 participants, the tour price includes full board in addition to all necessary permits. We have carefully selected accommodation in well located pleasant small hotels or lodges. The tour will be guided by photographer Petr Slavik, who has extensive experience in photographing African wildlife. You can find out more about him on his website.

Tour program:

Day 1: By air to Africa

Fly from Prague to Uganda (Entebbe International Airport), upon arrival transfer to hotel. Welcome to Uganda and enjoy the fresh breeze from Lake Victoria – the 2nd largest lake in the world. Rest well, your adventure begins tomorrow.

Day 2: Rhino watching in Ziwa Reserve and night safari in Murchinson Falls NP

After an early breakfast, depart for Murchinson Falls National Park. Your first stop will be Ziwa Nature Reserve where you will have the opportunity to observe rhinos. With the help of local guides, you should be able to find the rhinos soon and subsequently spend a total of one hour with them. After this experience you will continue into the national park to Murchison Falls. Later in the evening you will enjoy a night safari in the national park (breakfast, lunch, dinner).

Day 3: Safari in Murchinson Falls National Park and boat trip to the falls

Murchison Falls National Park is the largest park in Uganda and provides many opportunities for wildlife viewing. After an early breakfast, you will walk along the north side of the Nile River and use your cameras to view giraffes, elephants, buffaloes, leopards, lions and various species of birds. Watching wild animals in their natural habitat as they feed, play or care for their young is an unforgettable experience.

After lunch, the safari will continue along the Nile River. A relaxing boat safari to the waterfalls awaits, providing further opportunities to observe life in and around the water (crocodiles, hippos, water birds, elephants…). Marvel at the power of Murchison Falls, and its “devil’s cauldron” (breakfast, lunch, dinner).

Day 4: Transfer to Kibale Forest NP

Early morning transfer from Murchison Falls National Park to Kibale Forest Park. Kibale Forest is a national park in western Uganda that protects one of Africa’s largest rainforests and lies at an altitude of 1100 – 1600m above sea level.

The afternoon will be free for relaxing by the pool in comfortable accommodation (breakfast, lunch, dinner).

Day 5: Kibale Forest NP – chimpanzee tracking and visit to the local Bigodi community

Kibale National Park is the prime primate habitat of East Africa. The chimpanzee trek is an amazing adventure that takes you deep into the tropical rainforest. In practice, it involves about 4 hours of walking in the tropical rainforest over rough terrain. In addition to chimpanzees, you may see catbirds or guerrillas, butterflies and countless species of birds singing from the treetops. With the help of a guide, you can track the chimpanzees and take photos. Enjoy the moments when you can be close to these intelligent creatures.

In the afternoon, depending on time and taste, you will head to the wetlands of Bigodi, known for its species diversity of birds and primates. By visiting a local Bigodi village, you will contribute to the development of this community, as the proceeds are used to build schools, for example (breakfast, lunch, dinner).

Day 6: Queen Elizabeth National Park

After breakfast, your journey continues to Queen Elizabeth National Park, where you will have the opportunity to explore the wildlife on the Kasenyi Plateau. Along the way, you will enjoy views of the crater lakes and the mystical Ruwenzori Mountains. Queen Elizabeth National Park is Uganda’s second largest national park, covering 1,978 square kilometres. It is located in the foothills of the aforementioned Ruwenzori Mountains. Upon arrival at the park, you will enjoy an evening safari and then transfer to your hotel for overnight stay (breakfast, lunch, dinner).

Day 7: Animal viewing and photography and boat safari

Today you will wake up early in the morning and head out on safari to see the animals that are just starting their normal day. Game viewing safaris take place on the Kasenyi plains in specially adapted safari vehicles designed just for game viewing. Expect to see lions, elephants, buffaloes, waterbucks, etc., all between the Ruwenzori Mountains and the Rift Valley escarpment (Great Rift Valley).

In the afternoon, the safari will continue with a boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel, a stretch of water connecting Lake Edward and Lake George. The boat safari will offer great opportunities for photographing shore birds, crocodiles, elephants or bush pigs. In the Kazinga Channel, a large number of hippos also live. (breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Day 8: Transfer to Bwindi NP

Today you will travel to the home of the mountain gorillas in Bwindi NP. Lunch will be en route or at the lodge depending on arrival time. Your accommodation at Bwindi NP will offer you a great rest in preparation for the next day when you embark on your first gorilla expedition (breakfast, lunch, dinner).

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is located in south-western Uganda on the edge of the Western Rift and is shared by Kanungu, Kabale and Kisoro districts. It covers an area of 331 km² and ranges in altitude from 1 160 m (Ishasha Gorge) to 2 607 m (Rwamanyonyi Peak). The average annual temperature ranges from 7-20 °C.

Day 9: Mountain gorilla trek

In the morning after breakfast, you will head to the national park’s training centre. Here you will learn the do’s and don’ts of a gorilla trek in Bwindi. Every expedition is different and sometimes requires a lot of strength, so it can be challenging. You’ll likely be making your way through dense jungle (accompanied by local guides) to reach the gorillas. Due to the changeable weather, it is advisable to bring raincoats and waterproof footwear. There are also some porters who are always willing to help visitors carry their backpacks for a nominal fee. The rangers will instruct you on how to behave around the gorillas and also, in particular, that you must keep a distance of 6 metres from them when viewing them. It is never easy to predict how long it will take to find the gorillas (2-8 hours). It depends on where the gorilla families are at the moment – some of them can be quite remote. A maximum of 1 hour can then be spent in the presence of gorillas. (breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Day 10: Mountain gorilla trekking and Lake Mburo NP

Today you will also be on an expedition to see the mountain gorillas. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is home to half of the world’s total mountain gorilla population. Other species of animals, butterflies, plants, mammals and reptiles are also found here. After a briefing at the headquarters, you will once again venture into the jungle under the guidance of a guide and ranger in search of mountain gorillas. In the afternoon you will move to Lake Mburo National Park (breakfast, lunch, dinner).

Day 11: Morning safari in Lake Mburo NP and transfer to Entebbe, stopping at the Equator.

After an early breakfast, you will embark on a safari in Lake Mburo National Park. This park is famous for its zebra, impala, giraffe, antelope, Cape buffalo and many species of tropical birds. A walking safari is one of the most authentic African wilderness experiences. You walk through the bush just as the first explorers once did, putting wildlife literally within reach. Depart the lodge and transfer to Entebbe where you will spend the night on the shores of the famous Lake Victoria. En route, stop at the equator – latitude 00 (breakfast, lunch, dinner).

Day 12: Boat trip to the Mabamba swamps, transfer to the airport.

Today you will have a unique adventure in the Mabamba swamps, where you will search for the African boa constrictor during a canoe trip. This huge bird inhabits the papyrus swamps and looks like a survivor from ancient times. The Mabamba swamps are home not only to the largest of the storks, but also to a huge variety of other birds – the Yellow-breasted Prunus, Weyns’s Snipe, Garden Snipe, Black Snipe, East African Warbler, Yellow-breasted Bulbul, Red-breasted Shrike, Lesser Swallow and the tiny Marsh Harrier. Occasionally, it is possible to see the flying gem of the Malachite kingfisher. In the afternoon transfer to Entebbe and rest before your flight home. Transfer to the airport (breakfast, lunch).

Flight to Europe.

Day 13: Return to the Czech Republic.

Return to the Czech Republic.
