Tour program:
1.-2. DAY: Flight to Peru and tour of the capital Lima – UNESCO
1. Day: Flight from Prague to the capital of Peru – Lima; transfer to the hotel.
2. Day: Tour of attractions in the historic part of the city (UNESCO monument) – Plaza Mayor with the cathedral, Love Park on the Pacific coast, the modern district of Miraflores and, conversely, one of the oldest districts of Barranco. In the afternoon, move south along the coast through the desert landscape to the Paracas peninsula.
3. DAY: Paracas National Park and Ballestas Islands; desert oasis Huacachina
3. Day: Boat trip to the steep rocky Ballestas Islands (Paracas National Park) inhabited by colonies of seabirds, maned lions and penguins. The route runs along the Paracas geoglyph “El Candelabrio”. Transfer to Nazca and on the way stop at the desert oasis of Huacachina, located between huge sand dunes. If interested, tasting of genuine Peruvian brandy “pisco”. Overnight in the town of Nazca.
DAY 4: Nazca Plain Figures – UNESCO; Chauchilla Cemetery
Day 4: Mysterious figures of the Nazca culture (images of monkeys, spiders and birds measuring several hundred meters). In good weather, optional aerial tour of the figures (price 110 USD – not included). Visit to the Chauchilla cemetery from the period of ancient local cultures with typical mummification of the deceased. Transfer to Arequipa.
DAY 5: Arequipa (2,350 m) – UNESCO
Day 5: Arequipa, the second largest city in Peru and the center of the Arequipa department, also known as the “White City”. It lies on the slopes of the Andes and the Misti volcano at an altitude of about 2,300 m above sea level. The Chili River flows through the city. Since 2000, it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here you will be able to tour the historic center of the city, visit the Santa Catalina monastery, and visit the Carmen Alto viewpoint with views of the nearby El Misti volcano (5,822 m).
DAY 6–7: Colca Canyon (3,290 m)
Day 6: Crossing the Colca Canyon (the 2nd deepest canyon in the world – 3,191 m) to the town of Chivay, optionally visiting the thermal baths.
Day 7: Mirador Cruz del Condor (3,800 m), observing wild Andean condors, breathtaking views into the depths of the canyon. Hiking trip through the Colca Canyon.
8–10 DAY: Lake Titicaca: Uros floating islands, Taquile island and Amantani
Day 8: Crossing the “Salinas y Aguada Blanca” nature reserve – a landscape of llamas, alpacas and vicuñas; on the way we will overcome the panoramic saddle “Mirador de los Volcanes” (4,910 m); arrival at Lake Titicaca, to Puna (3,830 m). Stop at Lake Umayo; sacred tower-shaped tombs of Chullpas in Sillustani.
Day 9: Boat trip to the Uros floating reed islands on Lake Titicaca, then to the natural islands of Amantani and Taquile with views of the Bolivian Cordillera Real mountain range, overnight stay on one of the islands, with local families.
Day 10: Return from the islands; Abra La Raya viewpoint (4,335 m), the famous center of the god Viracocha – Raqchi and overnight stay in Sicuani.
DAY 11: Hiking to Rainbow Mountain, visit to Andahuaylillas Church
Day 11: Early morning hiking to Rainbow Mountain, with views of the Red Valley and the snow-capped sacred mountain of Ausangate. On the way to Cusco, stop at the “Sistine Chapel of Peru” – the Andahuaylillas Church.
DAY 12: Cusco City and surrounding monuments (3,300 m above sea level) – UNESCO World Heritage Site
Day 12: Cusco used to be the capital of the Inca Empire – it will enchant you with its rich history, culture and beautiful surroundings. The Plaza de Armas is the heart of the city, surrounded by the cathedral, churches and historical buildings. Narrow cobblestone streets lead to it, reflecting colonial and Inca architecture.
Tour of the historic center of Cusco and its surroundings; Qenko rock observatory, Sacsayhuamán ceremonial site, Sun Temple (Qorikancha).
DAY 13-15: Sacred Valley of the Urubamba River, Inca Trail and Machu Picchu (UNESCO)
Day 13: Trip to the Sacred Valley of the Urubamba River with a visit to the Inca baths Tambo Machay, the Puca Pucara guard post, the Inca city of Pisaq; Ollantaytambo fortress, Overnight: Ollantaytambo
Day 14: Beautiful crossing over Abra Málaga (4320 m) to the village of Santa María (1170 m), on the way we will see coffee and banana plantations and cocoa fields. From SM an adventurous crossing over the canyon to the town of Santa Teresa and further to the hydroelectric power plant and from there on foot to Machu Picchu (approx. 12-15 km/3 hours walk), to Machu Picchu pueblo.
Day 15: Tour of the most famous citadel of the famous Incas, the famous lost city – magical Machu Picchu, optionally with a climb to Huyana Picchu/Machu Picchu, return to Ollantaytambo (by tourist train).
DAY 16: Visit to the Maras salt fields, the Moray agricultural observatory, the textile city of Chinchero, Cusco
Day 16: We will leave the Sacred Valley and on the way to the heart of the Inca empire, Cusco, we will visit the photogenic Maras salt mines, which have been operating here since Inca times, we will see the Moray Inca agricultural observatory and in the city of Chinchero we will get acquainted with the textile techniques that local women use, following the example of their ancestors, in the production of knitted and woven products.
DAY 17-18: Cusco – and return by plane from Peru to Prague
Farewell to Peru, departure to Europe and then to the Czech Republic.
