Frequently asked questions:

  • What are the main tourist attractions in Costa Rica?
Some of Costa Rica’s top attractions include national parks such as Manuel Antonio, Monteverde, Arenal and Corcovado, as well as impressive volcanoes, beaches on both the Pacific and Caribbean coasts, rainforests and an extraordinary wealth of flora and fauna. However, Enjoy Travel also has tips for places that stay off the main tourist routes and offer an authentic experience of this fascinating country.
  • Is Costa Rica safe for tourists?
Costa Rica is generally considered one of the safest countries in Latin America. Nevertheless, it is advisable to follow basic safety precautions, especially in the larger cities and tourist areas.
  • Do I need a visa to travel to Costa Rica?
Citizens of the Czech Republic do not need a visa for tourist trips of up to 90 days. However, it is necessary to have a passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of return.
  • When is the best time to visit Costa Rica?
You can travel to Costa Rica all year round. The best time is the dry season from January to April, when the weather is sunny with minimal rainfall. However, be aware that there are more tourists in the country during this period.
The rainy season lasts from May to December, with the most rain falling in September and October. Rain usually comes in the afternoon and its intensity varies by region. An interesting feature is the short dry season called veranillo, which usually occurs in July.
  • Is Costa Rica a good destination for holidays with children?
Definitely yes! Costa Rica is very friendly to families with children. Little travellers will love the local nature, animals, waterfalls, beaches and adventures in the national parks. Many hotels and eco-resorts offer comfortable facilities for families – including family rooms, children’s pools and activities tailored to little adventurers. We offer carefully selected and vetted family hotels and eco resorts, and we’re happy to recommend beaches and excursions that will delight travellers young and old.
  • What activities are suitable for children in Costa Rica?
Kids will have lots of fun and adventure in Costa Rica. Easy hikes to national parks with the chance to spot monkeys, sloths and other animals, easy hikes to waterfalls, rope parks or boat rides on the river are great. Gently shelving beaches such as Playa Sámara are ideal for smaller children. Other experiences include visits to local farms, overnight stays or activities in the treetops, views of volcanoes and peaceful evenings on beautiful sandy beaches.
  • What about child safety when swimming in the sea?
Many beaches have stronger currents, so it is advisable to choose beaches that are suitable for children (e.g. Playa Hermosa, Playa Carrillo). Hotels with swimming pools and resorts by quieter bays are ideal for families. Always take extra care and follow local recommendations.
  • Do I necessarily need to rent a car in Costa Rica or is there another way to travel?
Not to worry if you’re not a fan of driving on vacation. Costa Rica has very well organized private and shared transfers that will conveniently transport you between hotels, airports and tourist attractions.
At CK Enjoy Travel, we’re happy to arrange the entire itinerary for you , including transfers with professional drivers – you just sit back and enjoy the views of volcanoes, rainforests or coastlines. Transfers are reliable, safe and comfortable even for families with children.
  • If we rent a car, what about driving in Costa Rica?
The road network in Costa Rica is quite good and allows easy access to most tourist attractions. Renting a car is a viable option, ideally with 4×4 drive – especially during the rainy season or when travelling off the main routes. What you should know about driving in Costa Rica:

    • Roads and signage: The main roads are generally in very good condition. However, secondary roads, especially in mountainous areas or to remote beaches, can be dusty, bumpy and less well signposted. In these regions, a four-wheel drive car is definitely worthwhile.
    • Driving licence: To drive in Costa Rica, all you need is a valid Czech driver’s license (at least 2 years is recommended). Some car rental companies may also require an international driver’s license – we recommend carrying it with you just in case.
    • Traffic culture: local drivers often drive slowly and sometimes improvise – for example, avoiding potholes or stopping unexpectedly. Be cautious, watch out for pedestrians, cyclists and animals on the roads.
    • Parking and refuelling: in towns, parking is usually paid, in the countryside it is easy and often free. Petrol stations are easily accessible, and most have attendants. You can pay by cash or card.
    • If you don’t want to stress behind thewheel, Enjoy Travel CK can arrange comfortable transfers with local drivers – air-conditioned, safe and hassle-free. A great solution for families and travellers who really want to enjoy their trip.
  • I’m tempted by Costa Rica but want to travel sustainably – do you have something like this?
Definitely yes! Sustainable travel is very close to our hearts at Enjoy Travel. We offer eco-friendly hotels, trips with local guides, and programs that support local communities and conservation. We’ll help you plan a trip that’s environmentally friendly – yet full of authentic experiences.
  • What is the quality of health care?
Costa Rica offers quality healthcare, especially in larger cities like San José, where you’ll find modern hospitals and experienced doctors. We recommend taking out travel insurance with sufficient cover for the cost of treatment. In some cases, a financial deposit may be required in advance.
  • What currency is used in Costa Rica and how are payments handled?
The official currency is the Costa Rican colón, but US dollars are widely accepted – with the exchange rate tending to be less favourable than the colón. Credit cards are widely accepted and ATMs are available in many cities and tourist areas. It is advisable to carry cash, especially for smaller purchases or in more remote areas.
  • I don’t know where to start in Costa Rica – can you advise me on an itinerary?
Of course! We’re happy to tailor-make an itinerary for you – whether you’re looking for a jungle adventure, relaxing by the sea, or exploring the local culture. Just let us know your ideas and we’ll take care of the rest.
