Tour program:
DAY 1: FLIGHT PRAGUE – BOGOTA
Departure from Prague to the capital of Colombia – Bogota, accommodation in a hotel in the city centre.
2. DAY: BOGOTA
Sightseeing tour of Bogotá – historical centre in La Candelaria (Plaza Bolívar with the cathedral); Nariño Presidential Palace, visit to the famous Museum of Gold. In the afternoon, take the cable car to the top of Monserrate (3 152 m) with a beautiful view of the whole city; visit the local market Paloquemao.
3. DAY 2: ZIPAQUIRÁ CATHEDRAL, VILLA DE LEYVA
Transfer to the pleasant colonial town of Villa de Leyva; en route stop in Zipaquirá and visit the unique underground cathedral made of salt. Villa de Leyva comes alive with social life after dark, accompanied by live music from traditional and alternative artists, so you’ll be tempted to take an evening stroll.
4. DAY 4: IGUAQUE LAGOON
Hike through the nature reserve to the Iguaque Lagoon (up to 3,800 m) – a sacred place for the indigenous people. Along the way we will pass through several different ecosystems – an exotic mountain landscape unique to páramo.
5. DEN: SAN GIL
Sightseeing tour of Villa de Leyva, visit to Casa Terracota (red house made of baked clay and ceramics); transfer to the town of San Gil and walk through the local natural park Gallineral, where we can see local parrots or squirrels, and the most interesting flora is a plant called tilandsia. For dinner you can taste the local delicacy – fried ants!!
6. DAY 6: BARICHARA AND A WALK ALONG THE CAMINO REAL
Visit the historic town of Barichara, cobblestone streets and old buildings and mountain views. Walking along the old trail called “Camino Real” (the royal road, beautiful views); Colombian countryside in the village of Guane, where we end our tour.
7. DAY 7: CHICAMOCHA CANYON
Through the Chicamocha Canyon (one of the deepest canyons in the world), with panoramic views and onwards with a stop in the town of Girón to Bucaramanga airport; from there, fly to Pereira “coffee region” and transfer to the rural settlement of Bosque del Samán, which will be your home for a few days.
DAYS 8-10: COLOMBIAN COFFEE, WAX PALMS AND JEEP RIDES IN “WILLYS”
Day 8: After breakfast, trip to the Cocora Valley (NP Los Nevados with its typical wax palms (it is the national tree of Colombia and with a maximum height of over 50 meters!); visit to the ACAIME reserve (walk with views and hummingbird watching). Visit to the town of Filandia with its observation tower and views; dinner together at your accommodation.
Day 9: Tour the towns of the region (e.g. the famous and colourful Solento) by the traditional local means of transport – the Willys jeep. The surrounding landscape of the coffee region is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We will end the tour with a visit to a coffee plantation, where we will learn not only about the traditional process of coffee processing, but also about its Colombian specifics (we will learn why Colombian coffee is the best). There will also be a tasting;
Day 10: Air transfer to the north of the country – to Santa Marta.
DAY 11 – 13: SANTA MARTA, HIKING IN NP TAYRONA
Day 11: Trip to one of the most beautiful National Parks in Colombia – Tayrona NP, which is located on the Caribbean coast and bordered on the other side by the Sierra Nevada mountain range (with the highest mountain in Colombia and peaks over 5,300 m). We will end the trip on the beautiful beach of San Juan El Guia. Swimming and a well-deserved rest.
Day 12: Trip to Taironaco, visiting the ancient dwellings of the local pre-Inca culture of the area. Possibility of swimming or resting by the river, optional water activities (for example tubing – floating down the river on rubber inner tubes).
Day 13: Transfer from Santa Marta to Cartagena.
DAY 14: CARTAGENA – UNESCO
Sightseeing tour of Cartagena de las Indias, located on the Caribbean coast; morning walking tour of the historic centre, the Inquisitor’s Palace and the San Pedro Museum; afternoon sightseeing tour of the San Felipe Fortress; ancient streets or sitting with music from street musicians.
DAY 15: FREE DAY
Optional cruise to the Islas del Rosario Natural Park (small islands, snorkeling, swimming or just relaxing on the beautiful Caribbean beaches).
DAY 16 – 17: REST BY THE SEA AND RETURN TO PRAGUE BY PLANE
Last morning in Cartagena (or on the beach), afternoon transfer to the airport and flight to Europe and then to Prague.

Note: The best time to visit Colombia is during the whole year. December (Christmas holidays), January, Easter, July and partly August. It is therefore preferable to choose other months or to plan your trip well in advance. For visiting other unique Colombian places (e.g. the Amazon, the trek to the Lost City, Caño Cristales – a plankton-stained river, the Pacific coast – whale watching…) please consult the dates of your trip with us.
