Colombia

Colombia is a fascinating and diverse country that offers a wealth of experiences for every traveller. From historic sites and vibrant cities to incredible nature and coffee plantations, Colombia has something for everyone. This diverse destination boasts a rich history, beautiful landscapes and exciting adventures that attract tourists from all over the world. Highlights include bustling cities such as Bogotá, Medellín and Cartagena, known for their colonial architecture and cultural heritage. For nature lovers and hikers, there’s the Colombian Caribbean with Tayrona National Park, the trek to the Lost City or the coffee plantations. Colombia is also an ideal destination for cycling and adventure expeditions, such as a visit to the Amazon.

For many years the country was closed to tourists due to the security situation, but today its image is changing rapidly and Colombia is becoming an increasingly popular destination. Due to its size and diversity, it’s impossible to visit everything in one trip, which is why we recommend focusing on specific areas and saving more discoveries for next time. Colombia is ideal for both individual travellers looking for an authentic experience and groups looking for organised tours. With a diverse range of activities – from sightseeing tours to outdoor adventures – there’s a little bit of paradise for everyone. Together with our local partner, we’ll be happy to tailor-make a trip to suit a variety of holiday types:

  • sightseeing tours (discovering cultural heritage, historical sites and natural beauty)
  • hiking tours (easier and more challenging routes, from leisurely walks to mountain climbs)
  • cycling tour (for road bikes and mountain bikes, rides on coffee plantations and mountain trails)
  • Combined tour (combining sightseeing, hiking and cycling – ideal for active travellers)

FAQs:

  • What is the best time to visit?
Colombia is a year-round destination with relatively stable temperatures throughout the year. The best times to visit are December to March and June to August, when there is less rainfall and pleasant weather. However, January is also holiday time for locals, so popular destinations tend to be busy. If you are planning a visit to Tayrona National Park, be aware that it is regularly closed in February for conservation reasons – we always recommend checking the current dates before you travel.
  • Do we need a visa to enter the country?
Czech citizens do not need a visa for a tourist stay of up to 90 days.
  • What are the best activities for nature lovers in Colombia?
Colombia is a nature lover’s paradise – offering a wide range of activities from hiking in the Andes to wildlife watching in the Amazon to diving and snorkelling in the Caribbean. Natural highlights include Tayrona National Park with its tropical beaches and jungles, the coffee region with its picturesque landscapes and plantation tours, and the rainforest around the Amazon River. On the Pacific coast you can see migrating humpback whales during the season (July-October). For the more adventurous traveller, a multi-day trek to the “Lost City” of Ciudad Perdida, hidden in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, is a challenge.
  • What to try in Colombia
Colombian cuisine is very varied and offers a wide range of flavours. As well as classic dishes such as arepas (corn fritters) and bandeja paisa (a hearty mixture of rice, beans, meat and avocado), you’ll enjoy a variety of fresh seafood, fresh fruit and drinks such as aguapanela (a sweet sugar cane drink). Fish and seafood are popular on the coast, while coffee and meat and potato dishes are popular in the mountains.
