Cuba tour program:
1.-4. DAY 4 – 4: AIR PRAGUE – CUBA; BARACOA
Day 1: By air from Prague to Cuba – to Holguín, transfer from the airport to the hotel, rest after a long journey.
Day 2: After breakfast , sightseeing in Holguín and transfer to Baracoa, the easternmost and at the same time the oldest city in Cuba, founded in 1511; a walk through the city – the square with the cathedral, which is said to house the cross that Christopher Columbus himself erected on the coast.
Day 3-4: Excursions in and around Baracoa: You’ll drive along the Duaba River, passing the chocolate factory inaugurated by Che Guevara in 1963, and continue upwards surrounded by cocoa plantations and coconut palms, with views of the Table Mountain, El Yunque. Walk to the waterfalls, which you can walk upstream and paddle through crystal clear pools. On the way back, sample local agricultural products such as coffee, cocoa, coconuts and citrus.
5.-6. DAY 6: SANTIAGO DE CUBA (UNESCO)
Day 5: Transfer to the eastern Cuban capital of Santiago de Cuba via the legendary La Farola mountain road, stopping for a view of the US military base at Guantánamo.
Day 6: Sightseeing in Santiago de Cuba: the central square Parque Céspedes with the cathedral and the residence of the first Spanish governor (said to be the oldest surviving house in Latin America) Diego Vélazquez; the cemetery of St. Iphigenia with the mausoleum of national hero José Martí and the tomb of Fidel Castro; the Moncada barracks; the Castillo del Morro – a 17th-century defensive fortress on a rock with views along the coast.
7.-8. DAY 7: CAMAGÜEY (UNESCO), SANTA CLARA
Day 7: Stop at the Basilica of El Cobre – the holiest church in Cuba, transfer to Camagüey – a picturesque town with winding streets and churches (UNESCO); walk through the main squares and peripheral streets with a relaxed, almost rural atmosphere.
Day 8: Visit Santa Clara, famous for its historical role during the Cuban Revolution – Che Guevara Memorial; a derailed train from the decisive battle that forced Fulgencio Batista to leave the country in 1958.
9.-11. DAY 11: SANCTÍ SPIRITUS, TRINIDAD (UNESCO), PLAYA ANCÓN
Day 9: Sanctí Spiritus – charming town, reputedly the oldest inland town in Cuba: centre with parish church and pedestrian zone; Yayabo brick bridge and surrounding streets. Continue through the former sugar region of Valle de los Ingenios with its watchtower (UNESCO) to Trinidad.
Day 10.
Day 11: Departure to the Topes de Collantes mountain area, Sierra del Escambray mountain range, “truck” ride, hike along the Guanayara river, with El Rocio waterfall and swimming.
DAY 12: BAY OF PIGS, PLAYA GIRÓN, HAVANA
Visit the Bay of Pigs, Playa Girón – the site of the failed American invasion to overthrow the Castro regime in 1961; transfer to Havana.
DAY 13-14: VIÑALES VALLEY IN THE PROVINCE OF PIÑAR DEL RIO (UNESCO)
Day 13: Transfer to the west of the island to the Piñar del Rio region, famous for its rocky limestone formations (mogotes) and tobacco plantations; the town of Viñales.
Day 14: Walk through the valley with the mogotes (UNESCO), the giant rock painting Mural de la Prehistoría (image of the evolution of life in Cuba depicted on the wall of one of the mogotes).
DAY 15-16: HAVANA (UNESCO)
Transfer to Havana – Walking tour of the historic centre (UNESCO) with its colonial architecture (San Cristóbal de la Habana Cathedral, Plaza de Armas and others); sightseeing in old American cars along the famous Malecón waterfront to the Vedado district .
DAY 17: RETURN TO PRAGUE
Arrival in Prague.
