Trip program:
1.-9. DAY 7: WANDERING ALONG THE ALTA VIA 1 ROUTE, THROUGH THE HEART OF THE DOLOMITES
Day 1: Morning departure from Prague to Venice, transfer by bus to Cortina d’Ampezzo and on to Passo Falzarego. A short walk to the accommodation.
Day 2: The first stage starts with an easy route around the famous winter sports centre of Cortina d’Ampezzo. After a short transfer by bus or taxi we reach the starting point below Passo Falzarego. From here we will start the climb to the Forcella Col dei Bos (2332 m), the only significant climb of the day. After crossing the saddle, we will enter the picturesque Val Travenanzes valley, overlooked by the majestic peaks of Tofana di Rozes, Tofana di Mezzo and Tofana di Dentro – the landmarks of Cortina d’Ampezzo. We will walk through the valley to its mouth, from where we will return by bus to Pian di Falzarego (15.2 km, ↑580 m, ↓1100 m).
Day 3: We start the second day with a short bus transfer to the Cinque Torri cable car. The cable car will take us to Rifugio Scoiattoli (2255 m), directly below the iconic five rock towers of the Cinque Torri. We will enjoy one of the last views of Cortina d’Ampezzo and the majestic peaks of the Tofana group. Next, we descend into the Val de Ra Fontanes and then begin a gentle climb through larch forests, past Lago Fedèra, to the highest point of the day, the Forcella Ambrizzola saddle (2277 m). At the end of the route we descend below the majestic Monte Pelmo (3168 m) to the Staulanza saddle (1766 m), where we finish the day at the mountain hut (16.8 km, ↑720 m, ↓1150 m).
Day 4: The third stage continues from the Staulanza saddle to the Rifugio Vazzoler hut (1,714 m) and takes us closer to the Civetta massif (3,220 m), considered one of the most picturesque peaks of the Dolomites. The majority of the route follows the slopes of this famous three-thousanders and bypasses its massif. We will spend the evening at the romantic Vazzoler hut, where we can enjoy the peace and beauty of the mountains (15.6 km, ↑830 m, ↓880 m).
Day 5: On the fourth day we will start the shortest stage of our crossing, from the Vazzoler hut to the Rifugio Passo Duran hut (1601 m). We will use it to recover our strength for the final two stages of our trek. We will move away from the massif of the 3,000-foot Civetta and into the southern part of the Dolomites. We will climb up the slope of another iconic Dolomite peak, Moiazza (2878 m), and from there we will climb through the Rifugio Carestiato mountain hut to the hut in the Passo Duran saddle, where we will spend the night (11.5 km, ↑600 up, ↓700 down).
Day 6: In the morning we will head further south, for the fifth stage of our walk. The path from the Passo Duran saddle climbs gently for a long time to 2451 m, below the summit of Cima De Zità di Mezzo. From here we have a steep descent to the Rifugio Pian de Fontana hut (1 632 m). This stage offers unforgettable views over the whole mountain area and southwards into the valley (16.2 km, ↑1080 m, ↓1050 m).
Day 7: The final stretch will take us from the Rifugio Pian de Fontana hut to La Pissa, from where you will take the bus back to the town of Belluno. On this route we will enjoy the last beautiful views of the surrounding peaks and say goodbye to the unique beauty of the Italian Dolomites (12.1 km, ↑280 m, ↓1450 m).
