FAQs:

  • What is the best time to visit Uganda?
The best time of year to visit Uganda is December to February and June to September – when the weather is drier and conditions are ideal for gorilla watching and safaris.
  • Is the gorilla trek challenging?
The trek can be physically demanding depending on the location of the gorilla group and the terrain. The average walking time is 2-6 hours. Each trek is led by an experienced guide and it is possible to request a less demanding route in advance.
  • Do I need a visa?
Yes, a visa is required. A great advantage is that you can set one up online in advance, the fee for a tourist visa valid for up to 90 days or a transit visa is US$50.
  • How difficult are the transfers between locations?
Transfers in Uganda can be time consuming. Although the main roads are tarmac in places, routes to the national parks are often on unpaved roads where very slow driving must be expected. In addition, heavy traffic, especially around towns, adds to the travel time. We therefore recommend travelling in an organised group with a local driver and guide who knows the best routes and the current traffic situation.
  • Can I pay by card in Uganda or should I take cash?
Cards can be used in some hotels and larger cities (e.g. Kampala), but in the natural areas it is better to have cash in USD or the local currency, which is the Ugandan shilling. We recommend exchanging at banks or official exchange offices.
