Tour program:
DAY 1: BY AIR FROM PRAGUE TO OMAN
Departure from Prague in the evening.
2. DAY: MASCAT, WADI HOQAIN, WADI SAHTAN
Around noon arrival in Muscat, after lunch transfer to Wadi Hoqain. This is a unique place where a rare type of rock, peridotite, forms white muddy deposits on the rocks in contact with fresh water. We will have the unique opportunity to bathe in the pools of this natural spa and refresh ourselves at the small waterfalls. If the weather permits, we can see the white deposits, but after heavy rains the water in the basin is usually clear, but without deposits. In the evening we move to the nearby Sahtan Wadi in the foothills of Oman’s highest peaks. Accommodation in a local guesthouse.
3. DAY 2: PANORAMA TREK IN THE WADI SAHTAN AREA
A full day mountain trek in the Wadi Sahtan area, you can choose either the more challenging ascent from Huwaib village via a suspension bridge to Wajma village (approx. 8 hours, 1000m elevation gain, 16km) or the easier and shorter trekking option by arrangement. Accommodation in a local guesthouse.
4. DAY 4: CANYONING WITH ABSEILING IN SNAKE GORGE
We will take a scenic offroad mountain road to the mystical Snake Gorge. Here we will have canyoning of medium difficulty, several rappels – the longest 20 m, jumps into the water 2 – 3 m, climbing over rocks and swimming in pools (time expectation 6 – 7 h). Alternatively, it is possible to choose a slightly easier option in the left gorge without abseiling or a mountain trek in this area. In the afternoon, transfer to the town of Al Hamra, where we will spend the night in a traditional adobe B&B.
5. DAY 5: VIA FERRATA ON MOUNT JEBEL SHAMS
From Al Hamra we will take a short offroading to the deep Nakhr canyon. We then take the mountain road up to Jebel Shams mountain. Here we take a panoramic easy trek along the canyon rim, the so-called Balcony walk. The path leads to the ruins of an abandoned village under a rock overhang and a mountain lake (approx. 1h30 – 2h walk).
A little above the pond begins Oman’s most beautiful via ferrata (time expectation approx. 3h). The ferrata contains mostly vertical climbing with absolutely unique views of the Grand Canyon of Arabia. We will spend the night at a local mountain resort.
6. DAY 6: CLIMB TO THE TOP OF THE HIGHEST MOUNTAIN JEBEL SHAMS
A full day trek to the highest peak of the Arabian Peninsula, i.e. Sun Mountain, 3009m above sea level. The hike is about 25km with an elevation gain of 1400m, the climb to the top takes a minimum of 6 hours, descending the same way back. In total, 12 hours or more, depending on the condition of the participants. Along the way we will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the Grand Canyon (Wadi Nakhr) and then from the other side to the Wadi Sahtan valley.
7. DAY 7: NIZWA TOWN, NIGHT IN THE DESERT
In the morning we visit the historic town of Nizwa with its monumental fortress and traditional marketplace, where we can restock on oriental spices and delicious Omani dates.
Afterwards, we transfer to the Wahiba Sands desert region where we visit a genuine Bedouin village where time seems to stand still, enjoy a romantic sunset on the dunes, a Bedouin dinner in a traditional camp and a peaceful evening by the fire watching the starry sky.
8. DAY 8: CANYONING AND TREKKING IN WADI HAWIR
After breakfast, transfer to Wadi Hawir. In the wadi, we will do some light canyoning through the beautiful landscape between massive boulders, imposing cliffs and turquoise pools. For those who are interested, there is the possibility of jumping into the water from the rocks, a natural slide and plenty of swimming. You can spend about 6 hours in the wadi.
In the afternoon we will drive to the coast near the town of Sur, where we will stay.
9. DAY: TREKKING IN THE SALMA PLATEAU AREA, TAHRA CAVES
We will take the Offroad to the Salmaa Plateau, from there we will go on an approx. 2h trek through the rocky landscape (without much elevation gain) to the huge Tahry Cave, which is part of a several kilometre long cave complex. Pack your headlamps to explore the bowels of this magnificent cave in the first km. Afternoon trek back the same way, overnight at a seaside guesthouse.
10. DAY 10: WADI TIWI, WADI SHAB
We will visit the TiwiWadi area , which is rightly considered as the Garden of Eden of Oman. We will drive up a steep mountain road to the magnificent waterfalls that directly beckon in refreshment. The more adventurous can descend even lower, to the magnificent Lake Mibam.
In the afternoon we will visit the beautiful Wadi Shab. In the early evening we arrive in the capital city of Muscat.
11. DAY 11: MUSCAT SIGHTSEEING, SWIMMING
On the last day we will see the most important sights of the capital Muscat (mosque, market, royal palace, etc.) and buy the last souvenirs. We will spend the afternoonby the sea, relaxing or doing water sports in Bandar Khiran. We will take a ride on a traditional fishing boat that will take you around the coves and islets, stopping for swimming and snorkeling.
DAY 12: FLIGHT BACK TO THE CZECH REPUBLIC
In the morning, depart Muscat by flight, transferring to Prague.
