Sometimes you want to get lost. To disappear from the constant hustle and bustle. To close the door. Do a digital detox. But where? Namibia, one of the world’s least populated countries and one of Africa’s safest, could be the answer for you. Many places on Earth are said to be breathtakingly beautiful. In the case of Namibia, this is not hyperbole, but simple fact. The country with the smallest population concentration in Africa will welcome you with open arms. For souls seeking an escape from the anthill of civilisation, it allows them to lose themselves in the splendour of the red dunes, the plains full of wildlife or the thousands of kilometres of beaches bathed by the Atlantic Ocean. It is full of incredible contrasts, colours and elements. Perhaps it will allow you to touch the stars that seem so low over the darkened desert. They shine like the eyes of night birds of prey. Become, if only for a moment, Jean-Paul Belmondo, who, in The Way of the Spoilt Child, was the CEO of a large company looking for a new life in a remote part of the planet. Petr Slavík, wildlife photographer and great lover of the black continent, will be your guide on your journey to the beauty of Namibia.

Tour program:

DAY 1 – 2: WELCOME TO NAMIBIA

Fly from Prague to the capital of Namibia – Windhoek. Upon arrival you will be picked up by your driver who, after a brief welcome to Namibia, will transfer you to your accommodation outside Windhoek. Depending on your arrival time, there will be time to relax and freshen up before enjoying a “high tea”, a kind of tea at five with the opportunity to feed the local giraffes, on the terrace. In the evening, a delicious four-course dinner awaits you.

DAY 3: WINDHOEK – NAMIB, SOSSUVLEI

After breakfast at the hotel, you will have a short briefing about the trip and immediately after that, you will get into the vehicle and head to the city centre. You will briefly get acquainted with the capital of Namibia and see sights such as Christ Church, the Parliament known as the Ink Palace as well as Independence Avenue. You will then leave Windhoek behind and head through the hilly landscape of the Khomas region to your next destination. If there is enough time, you can even drive through one of the beautiful passes that will take you to the Namib-Naukluft region. A stop at the Solitaire settlement will allow you to try their famous pastries before arriving at your accommodation for the next two nights right in the Namib-Naukluft National Park. In the late afternoon, you will head to the nearby Elim Dune to watch the sun set over the majestic dunes of the Namib Desert.

DAY 4: SOSSUVLEI

Today you will rise early in the morning before the sun rises. Your guide will take you to a deserted dune, away from the main crowds, where you can admire the amazing morning light permeating the world’s oldest desert. After a breakfast picnic, you’ll venture deeper into the desert. You’ll visit Sossusvlei, a salt pan surrounded by dunes, and Deadvlei, where you’ll be stunned by the striking contrast between the white clay soil, dead acacia trees, rusty red dunes and deep blue skies. It is one of the most unique places in Africa. If you feel like it, you can also stop at the Sesriem Canyon. In the dry season, it is possible to walk through part of this 30-metre deep canyon. The play of light and shadow in the narrow parts is particularly beautiful. During the afternoon you will return to your accommodation.

DAY 5: SWAKOPMUND

Today’s journey takes you to the Atlantic Ocean. First, however, you will pass Bloedkoppie and follow Welwitschia Drive. Eventually, you will reach several viewpoints that will give you amazing views of the so-called Moonscape. You will have the opportunity to view this strange and fascinating landscape of rugged rocky peaks. It’s almost spooky, but at the same time a very beautiful sight. You will then reach the town of Swakopmund, which is located between the ocean and the Namib Desert. In the evening you can try one of the many restaurants that Swakopmund has to offer (dinner is not included in the tour price).

DAY 6: SKELETON COAST AND CAPE CROSS

Start the day with a drive along the infamous Skeleton Coast. Many boats have run aground on this rugged stretch of coastline and you’ll stop at one of these wrecks, visible from the shore. You’ll continue along the coast to Cape Cross, where you’ll be greeted by the sight of over 200,000 South African sea lions. It’s an incredible sight! As you continue your journey along the rugged Skeleton Coast, you will feel the isolation and desolation of these places. They feel hostile, yet so beautiful – something that is hard to explain in words, but you can feel it for yourself. Just before Torra Bay, you turn off the coastal road and reach Damaraland. In the afternoon you will arrive at your campsite to have a chance to rest.

DAY 7: TWYFELFONTEIN – UNESCO MONUMENT

After an early morning breakfast, you will head into the dry riverbed of the Huab River in search of rare desert elephants. As you drive, enjoy the unique landscape of Damaraland and learn more about the local people and their way of life. With a bit of luck, you may see desert elephants that have adapted to life in the desert and are slightly smaller than their counterparts in Etosha National Park.

In the afternoon, you will visit Twyfelfontein, the only site in Namibia declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The site is famous for its collection of more than 2 500 rock carvings dating back 2 000 to 6 000 years. If time permits, you will also stop at the Damara Living Museum. You will learn more about the way of life of the Damara ethnic group hundreds of years ago, learn about their crafts, their dances and their songs.

After an exciting day, you’ll return to your tented camp for another delicious dinner and fall asleep to the sounds of the wilderness.

DAY 8: ETOSHA NP

Before heading to Etosha National Park, you’ll stop at Petrified Forest, where a local guide will show you fossilized tree trunks that are approximately 260 million years old. The site also provides an excellent opportunity to learn about Namibia’s national plant, the evergreen Welwitschia strange. It is generally agreed that many of these fascinating and bizarre-looking desert plants are over a thousand years old.

Then it’s time to continue to Etosha National Park, which was established in 1907 and is one of the most famous national parks in southern Africa. Most of your time is spent watching the action around the watering holes where elephants, rhinos, giraffes and various species of antelope come to drink. If you’re lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of lions and leopards. After this exciting spectacle, you will arrive at your accommodation inside the national park.

DAY 9: ETOSHA NP

Starting your safari early has all the advantages. It is cool in the morning and this is when the animals are most active. You have a full day to explore Etosha National Park and learn about the animals that live there. Elephants, zebras and other herbivores can often be spotted, and it always takes a bit of luck to spot lions or other beasts such as hyenas, cheetahs or the elusive leopard on safari. On some occasions you may even come across rhinos. You never know what nature has in store for you, but your guide will help you find animals you would otherwise be sure to miss. You also have time to visit a place called Etosha Pan, known in the local language as Oshiwambo ‘The Great White Place’. You will literally be surrounded by silence in this fantastic place.

To experience the nocturnal animals, just wait at the illuminated watering hole right inside the resort.

DAY 10: WATERBERG REGION

Your day starts early again, and before breakfast you will set off on your last safari in Etosha National Park. You may see animals you may not have seen in previous days – every day on safari is different and full of surprises. Now it’s time to leave the Etosha region and your journey will take you further south. The Waterberg and its steep, red cliffs will be visible from afar. At the foot of the Small Waterberg lies your accommodation, make yourself comfortable by the pool, relax and enjoy the peace and quiet of nature.

DAY 11: WINDHOEK

Enjoy one more spectacular sunrise! You will have the opportunity to head up the Little Waterberg to catch the sun rising over the entire plateau of the same name. After a hearty breakfast, you will start your return journey. In Okahandja, you have the opportunity to shop for handmade souvenirs at the local carvers market before continuing on to Windhoek. Once you return to Namibia’s capital, your guide will drive you to Windhoek Airport, where you will say goodbay to Namibia with only the fondest of memories.
